I like to look at things in the simplest form because it helps me better understand all the crazy complexities that man has come up with over the years. So for me, Christianity is about being like Jesus Christ. Everyday, In every way. Simple. No matter what. Reading through the Bible, I always pay attention to the life of Jesus Christ and I see how he treated people, I see how he handled situations, I see how he reacted to rejection, abuse, disbelief, doubt, hunger, temptation. I see how Jesus lived his life. For me, Christianity is about living my life just like Jesus did ALL THE TIME. Or at least doing all I can do so by His grace. So just like Jesus Christ was himself all the time and not just when he went to the synagogue or when he spoke to the elders, So must I be Christ-like all the time and not just on Sundays in church or when I am in the midst of fellow Christians. My beliefs, my faith, my Christian walk must be a way of life for me. A constant way of life. My very identity must be so wrapped up in this life that when people see me, when people interact with me they immediately notice something different, something ‘apart’. They perceive that I am of a ‘strange’ stock. And when they find out I am a Christ-follower, they click the fingers and say ‘that’s it! I knew there was something different about her!’. My way of life should be so evidently Christ-like that people recognise me as a child of God. This cannot happen if I am living it today and its gone tomorrow. There really cannot be any Jekyll and Hyde games going on if we are to be a true follower of Christ. Please don’t get me wrong, I am not saying the moment one makes that decision to be born again. To make Jesus Christ one’s personal Lord and Savior that one’s life automatically becomes this shining example of a perfect Christian walk. Oh no! That would be unreal. But you see, that is WHY we must, from that moment, make that decision colour every aspect of our life DAILY so that gradually, Christ becomes a part of your life. His life in you begins to affect how you live your life. His light in you begins to shine over all you do. His breath in you gives life to all you set out to do. Gradually, as your Christianity becomes a way of life for you, you become empowered to make it even more so everyday. You are not just someone who ticks a Christianity box on forms. You ARE a Christian. It is the very essence of your existence. If we dont make Christianity a way of life. If we choose when to put on our Christian hat and when to take it off, then our life would just be a mediocre lie. We would never really have that true relationship with God that we should and worse still, we will bring shame to the testimony of other Christians and even worse, to the name of the God we proclaim to serve. I think one of the most painful statements I hear these days is ‘And you call yourself a Christian!’. Unbelievers are so quick to fling this accusation at us cos you see, they are watching, waiting for us to step out of ‘line’, to see when our mask will slip. But if we are allowing what we believe affect all we do, then this is unlikely to happen because before we do anything, we consider this question ‘what would Jesus do?’ or “How would God want me to say right now? You are a child of God. His DNA is in you. It must show ALL the time cos its WHO you are not what you do. Like I say when people ask me who I am, I reply, I am a child of God, a follower of Jesus Christ and my name is XYZ. So please note that all I do wil reflect that and you have permission to take me up on anything thing I do that you think does not.
