In what is nothing short of a game changers and a trend setter for the 2013 year of gaming, “Rockstar” have announced that their universally acclaimed and often highly controversial series, “Grand Theft Auto” will continue as “Grand Theft Auto V”, the fifth numbered game in the franchise, is set to be released in the Spring of 2013. With the end of 2012 already being star-studded in terms of video game line-up including the releases of “Assassin’s Creed III”, “ Call Of Duty: Black Ops II” and more, not to mention, 2013 set to see the release of “Tomb Raider” and “The Last Of Us”, it is safe to say that the New Year is guaranteed to be a huge one for the world of console video games. The Grand Theft Auto series of video games always proves to be nothing short of a thriving success on every console it is released on. In the 1990’s, the first game was released for the PC and later on the Sony Playstation. A spin-off, “ Grand Theft Auto: London” was also released, followed by “Grand Theft Auto 2” for the PS1 and Sega Dreamcast. However, it wasn’t until the release of the Sony Playstation 2 that the GTA series really started to pick up steam. Following the release of the PS2, Rockstar released “ Grand Theft Auto III: Liberty City” which at the time of its release, became the most successful game of all time, as well as one of the most controversial. It was these “best sellers of all time” that became synonymous with the Grand Theft Auto series. It seemed that every game that followed Liberty City including the 1983 “Scarface” clone in Vice City as well as the urban hell of San Andreas continued to surpass the previous. This was especially the case in the late 2000’s when “Grand Theft Auto IV” was released for next generation consoles. GTA IV went on to become one of the biggest games in the history of the Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles, a bragging right it still has to this day. GTA IV also saw two standalone sequels which were also critically acclaimed in “The Ballad Of Gay Tony” and “The Lost And Damned”. The official website for Rockstar Games was updated earlier this week with an array of new screenshots, a trailer and a link to other sections of the website. However, the most intriguing and exciting for fans of the series was the poster which states that Grand Theft Auto 5 has a release date of “Spring 2013”. The hype is now on for GTA 5, a game which is already becoming one of the most highly anticipated games of the New Year. Will GTA 5 live up to its hype and expectation following its Spring 2013 release date?
